There
are several fine foods on the market and your veterinarian can often
be of assistance in helping you select a food that is beneficial
to your dog. We currently feed our dogs Opti Plus (Puppy Formula
and Adult Formula), a Canadian Premium food. This food is not
generally available. Unless you are willing to have it shipped,
you will need to select another brand.
Some
other foods that we recommend are; Flint River Ranch (they
will ship to you at no charge), Nutro Natural puppy and adult
diets, and Solid Gold (both can be found at most pet supply
houses).
Suggested
feeding schedule:
9
Weeks - 12 Weeks
- Early
morning feeding of 3/4 Cup moistened with lukewarm water.
- Noon
snack of a small dog biscuit
- Evening
feeding of 3/4 Cup moistened with lukewarm water
12
Weeks - 16 Weeks
- 3/4
- 1 Cup twice daily (moistened if necessary)
- By
this age your English Cocker Spaniel puppy will do well on two meals a day with the
snack optional. We feed all of our dogs twice a day throughout
their lives.
9
months - throughout live
- 1
cup twice daily.
- Active
English Cocker Spaniels, especially males, might require 1/2 - 1 cup more per day
Note
that these
suggested feeding amounts might vary slightly based upon activity
levels and speed of growth of your puppy. You will have to keep
a close watch on your English Cocker Spaniel to be sure your puppy is maintaining proper
weight.
Obesity
is a particular risk for the English Cocker Spaniels as they typically love to eat.
Along with proper feeding, exercise
is vital to the health of your Cocker Spaniel. If you are using treats as a
reward for good behavior, we recommend taking a handful of kibble
out of you dogs next meal to use throughout the day.
